Driver's License Verification enables real-time verification of a driver's license directly against the issuing state's DMV records, providing an authoritative, up-to-date source of identity data. 

Each submitted field, license number, name, date of birth, address, etc,  is verified independently against the state's record. Submitting only the driver's license number will only return a result for that field; to get a complete picture, include as many identity fields as possible (name, date of birth, address) in the request.

Use cases:

• Confirm a driver's license is valid and hasn't been altered or forged at the point of application
• Verify license details against a real-time, state-issued source rather than static or self-reported data
• Support ongoing identity checks throughout the customer lifecycle to help guard against account takeover

Supported States: DL Verification is currently supported in 44 states. It is not available in AK, CA, LA, MN, NY, PA, or UT. ID Card Verification has additional exceptions and is not available in DE, NV, or WI.

Data Update Frequency: This is a real-time lookup, so results reflect the most current information available in each state's DMV database at the time of the request. Underlying update frequency varies by state and local jurisdiction.

Best Practices

• Street address: Mismatches can occur due to DMV formatting differences (abbreviations, truncation, unit numbers). Submitting city, state, and ZIP can help clarify a true mismatch versus a formatting difference.
• Name: Formatting varies across DMV records, last name is usually listed first, followed by suffix, first, and middle name, though order can vary. Middle names may be spelled out or abbreviated, and hyphens should be omitted.
• Expiration date: In certain states, military personnel and individuals over age 60 may have licenses with no expiration date or an extension waiver.
